CAPE ADVENTURES ( ENQUIRY )
CAPE TOWN & BEYOND

Your guide from Africa Experience will meet you at Cape Town International Airport on arrival. After a long and exhausting flight, we transfer to our overnight accommodation and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure

Day 2 : Cape Town
At daybreak we board our boat for Great White Shark photography. False Bay is the only place in the world where Great White Sharks breach (see documentary, “Breaching Sharks”, on The Discovery Channel) and we will try and capture that on film! Just before we return to the safe environment of the harbor, guests will have the additional opportunity of getting into a shark cage for “up-close-and-personal” shark encounters! We return to shore after mid-day. Please note that this excursion is weather dependant. We return to land at lunch. After lunch, we visit Cape of Good Hope within the Cape Point Nature Reserve, also situated within the Greater Table Mountain National Park. The Cape Point Nature Reserve was established to protect the Fynbos (means fine leaves), this reserve is a botanist’s dream. We also visit the wild and rocky promontory of Cape Point with fantastic views. Our last place of interest to visit for the day is Boulder’s Beach – one of only two South African land based African Penguin colonies.

Day 3 : Cape Town
After breakfast we depart for Cape Town harbor to be in time for the ferry transfer to Robben Island. Robben Island, today a world heritage site, became internationally known for its institutional brutality towards “political prisoners”. The duty of those who ran the Island and its prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale. Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beliefs! You will have the opportunity to interact with some of these prisoners who are guides at the prison today. This emotional and human-touching visit to the island will last for ±2½hours after which we board the ferry once again and “sail” back to Cape Town. From the harbor we transfer to Table Mountain. Weather and time permitting, we ascend this young World Heritage Site to a height of 3 500ft. Views from atop of Cape Town, Table Bay, Robben Island and most of the spectacular Cape Peninsula will give you very good photographic opportunities and guaranteed to “take your breath away”! From Table Mountain we retrace our route to Afton Grove via Clifton, Campsbay, Llandudno and Hout Bay.

We visit a couple of wine cellars for a taste of the regions wines and time permitting, we visit the KWV Brandy (Cognac) Distillery. Late afternoon we check in at out overnight accommodation and prepare for dinner.

Day 8 : Sanbona PGR - Knysna
Our final early morning Game Drive takes us to breakfast and then it is time to wave our good-byes to this magnificent reserve. We arrive in the capitol of the Garden Route mid-afternoon. Spectacular views greets you and the rest of the afternoon is spent at leisure in the comfort of our overnight accommodation, The St James of Knysna.
Accommodation: The St James
Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Day 9 : Knysna
A casual day of sight seeing is spent in and around the tall forests and peaceful lagoons of Knysna. Knysna encircles the Knysna Lagoon, which is marked with the Knysna Heads at the entrance to the Indian Ocean. We stop at these magnificent natural beacons for a photographic session of nature. From Knysna we visit the ‘Big Tree’ along Route N2. A 2km hike leads us to this massive Outeniqua Yellowwood Tree, believed to be over 1 000 years old. The town of Knysna is unusual in giving its name to three bird species (Knysna Warbler, Knysna Woodpecker & Knysna Turaco) but we would be lucky to encounter more than one of these; Knysna Turaco, with its emerald-green plumage, contrasting with crimson primaries in flight is probably our best bet! Last minute shopping can be done in the afternoon.
Accommodation: The St James
