CAPE ADVENTURES ( ENQUIRY )
CAPE TOWN & KRUGER NATIONAL PARK COMBO

14 Days / 13 Nights
Arrive: Cape Town
Depart Johannesburg

Arriving Cape Town, arguably the most beautiful city on planet earth, we experience the natural beauty as well as the laid-back attitude of the inhabitants of Cape Town! Some of the nature and culture we are to experience include whales, penguins, fynbos flora with an option for Table Mountain and Robben Island too. Robben Island Prison was an institution which was used to hide the apartheid’s opposition from the outside world during the 60’s & 70’s, and, today, a World heritage Site. The second part of this Tour Program concentrates on the showpiece in South African Conservation – the world famous and well-documented Kruger National Park. Discovering wildest Africa on foot is an experience very few privileged guests experience – or even know they can do it! Waking up to animal sounds in the African bush, is an experience you will not be able to convey to your amazed friends! Forget the hustle & bustle of the modern cities and wind down with like-minded fellow travelers! The Tour Program is designed for all ages and who are true friends of nature – you will just love the experience! Day 1: Cape Town Touching down Cape Town International Airport, you are transferred to Afton Grove Country Retreat. The rest of the day is spent at leisure after a long and exhausting flight from the UK.

Day 2: Kirstenbosch, Cape Point & Boulders
After breakfast we transfer to Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens via the scenic and world-renowned Chapman’s Peak. Founded in 1913 and lying on the eastern slopes of Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch covers an area of 828ha, of which 60ha is cultivated with indigenous flora with the remainder uncultivated areas, protected as a natural floral reserve. Kirstenbosch is a living display featuring almost 5000 of the 20 000 indigenous floral species of the South African flora. Towards mid-morning, we depart from Kirstenbosch and visit the world famous Groot Constantia Wine Cellar, situated on the slopes of the Table Mountain Range. After lunch, we depart for the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, which forms part of the Table Mountain National Park. Established to protect the Fynbos (means fine leaves), this reserve is a botanist’s dream. The fynbos within the reserve, which forms part of the Cape Floral Kingdom, is the smallest of the six floristic kingdoms of the world, but has the highest number of species, a staggering 8 600, of which 5 800 are found nowhere else in the world! All “crammed” into an area measured only one-third the size of Britain. The Cape Floral Kingdom also has the highest known concentration of plant species: 1 300 species per 10 000 km²! The nearest rival is the South American rain forest with a concentration of a mere 400 species per 10 000 km²! The most characteristic form of vegetation in this floral kingdom is fynbos (pronounced “fain-bos”) and is the common name for the distinctive scrublands of the Western Cape Province of South Africa.  We also visit the wild and rocky promontory of Cape Point with fantastic views. Our last place of interest to visit for the day is Boulder’s Beach – one of only two South African land based African Penguin colonies.

Day 3: Great White Sharks
At daybreak we board our boat for Great White Shark photography. False Bay is the only place in the world where Great White Sharks breach (see documentary, “Breaching Sharks”, on The Discovery Channel) and we will try and capture that on film! We return to shore after mid-day. Please note that this excursion is weather dependant. Our lunch is complimented with a visit to some of the finest wine cellars in the world. The afternoon is spent tasting some of the best wines in the world and we can also appreciate the true yesteryear’s Cape-Dutch architecture of some of these wine estates.

Day 4: Cape Town
Your day at leisure!
Spend time in the V&A Waterfront – any shop-aholic’s dram or take the ferry to Robben Island. Robben Island, today a world heritage site, became internationally known for its institutional brutality towards “political prisoners”. The duty of those who ran the Island and its prison was to isolate opponents of apartheid and to crush their morale. Some freedom fighters spent more than a quarter of a century in prison for their beliefs!
